Decompression Therapy

Decompression therapy treatment room

Natural relief from spine and joint pain.

Decompression therapy helps by drawing healthy fluids and nutrients into the joint while decreasing pressure.

This is a therapy that allows joints and spinal discs to be treated without the use of medication or surgery. There are very few side effects and typically relief can be felt immediately following the procedure.

Relieve joint and spine related pain with decompression therapy

Decompression therapy works by using a special distraction (separation) force to take pressure off the joint thereby allowing the joint to heal and the pain to be alleviated.

Frequently asked questions

How does decompression therapy work?

Decompression therapy is a special form of traction where the spine or a specific joint like a knee or hip are put in a specific brace and placed under traction so that pressure is taken off of the joint.

This distraction effect (pulling) allows for the fluid that lubricates the joint to be drawn into the area in more volume and deeper into the joint space. This therapy helps the joint heal and become better lubricated which aids in pain relief.

What does decompression feel like?

Generally when you are having decompression therapy done, you will lay on your stomach or back. A special belt system will be placed around your torso and pelvic areas or the knee or hip. The distraction (separation) force is applied very gently. The separation force gradually increases for a set time, then slowly releases. It repeats this process while increasing the force over a 15 to 30 minute time period.

Treatment plans?

Dr. Ford generally recommends a trial of 3-5 visits using decompression therapy to see if the patient responds well to the therapy and will benefit from it. If the initial visits are helpful at alleviating the pain and symptoms associated with disc or joint problems, then a plan of 2-4 visits per week for 4-8 weeks will be recommended. Unlike many clinics who offer decompression therapy, we do not require signing a contract or up front payment for the entire care plan. Decompression therapy is $30 per visit.
